Tracking services and equipment through EquipLocate
Technology: The EquipLocate GPS equipment asset tracking system employs three networks to provide remote equipment tracking services: The Global Positioning Satellite (GPS) network, the Groupe System Mobile (GSM) cellular network, and the Internet. These networks allow the user to track their equipment and control their EquipLocate system from the comfort and privacy of their home or office.
GPS Network: The GPS network is a system of 24 satellites in orbit above the earth’s surface. GPS is funded by and controlled by the U. S. Department of Defense (DOD). While there are millions of civil users of GPS worldwide, the system was designed for and is operated by the U. S. military. The satellites provide specially coded signals that are processed by the GPS receiver in the EquipLocate device, enabling the system to compute its position, speed and direction.
GSM/SMS Network: The Groupe System Mobile (GSM) cellular network is the latest digital cellular network to be deployed by cellular carriers nationwide, and the latest version has added Short Messaging Services (SMS) capability to allow small amounts of data to be transmitted along with voice traffic. The TrimTrac has a GSM/SMS transmitter and receiver that allow the system to receive commands and transmit position reports and other data requested by the user.
GPRS: GPRS, or General Packet Radio Service, is an advanced GSM network feature that permits large amounts of data to be transmitted over the cellular network at a reasonable cost. SkyPatrol Plus utilizes GPRS in order to permit users to make full utilization of the system without incurring a large monthly communications charge.
